The Game Awards 2020

Most of these types of "industwy" things are cringie, but I still watch them for a couple reasons.  It's a way to keep my finger on the pulse of this type of video game media (even if I don't like it or agree with what/how it presents it), this particular award show is still a bit better (but also worse) than past attempts other shows have tried, sometimes there's some interesting live musical performances or peeps I enjoy seeing and then there's the new game announcements that are made.  They know that is the reason people tune in...the rest, including the agenda pandering awards themselves, is pretty much throwaway.

This year's show has a couple of things I'm interested in.  Anything Nintendo related of course including the PokéMon GO tie-in (although, why isn't PokéMon GO including in their "ongoing game" or "community game" awards?), but I'm also wondering how they'll deal with the cv flu crap, plus Devolver Digital will be doing a pre-show which will probably be better than the show itself.

I'll be posting up videos from and a write-up about this show in this post after the event.

Okay, so after watching it my mind isn't changed about these shows: they're crap, but what do you expect from the "industwy"?  They overhype crap, most new game reveals will be soon forgotten, most trailers were for cgi movies not games, lot's of over-used buzzwords and way too much political sjw white-knighting.  I also knew TLOU2 would win everything (including stuff it shouldn't have and in categories it shouldn't have even been in)...why, because there is a socialist social conditioning blitz in all forms of media (including entertainment and games) and we must believe in this eschewed narrative (speaking of buzzwords) brainwashing.  If I had livestreamed my reactions while watching I would've been banned from the internet (and maybe life) by the incoming Communist American Party.  Why can't games just be fun?

But there was some good stuff to pick out of the feces.  Sephiroth in Smash was a surprise (some were expecting a Fortnite, Monster Hunter, Doom character or some other crossover) but I kinda question, why?  You already have Cloud, if it's Final Fantasy, why not a character from another game, and if a villain, why not Kefka from FF 3 (6)?  Is something FF7 related happening on Switch...maybe a cloud version of the remake?  Anyways, the Devolver Digital thing wasn't a pre-show...it was funny, but just a short clip/trailer in the pre-show.  CAPCOM comin' strong (surprisingly) with the new Ghosts'n'Goblins game as well as the CAPCOM arcade thing and the new Monster Hunter Rise trailer (though, why not tie in the movie too)!  The PokéMon GO tie-in was neat, the Mario 35TH orchestra tribute was okay, Reggie was there, but not a lot of Nintendo bones thrown into the show.

Non-Nintendo stuff didn't interest me much except for the new Left4Dead sequel...doesn't personally interest me but I think it's a good franchise and I liked that the guy saying basically a movie of it is BS and went into showing gameplay footage.  Would like if more things like that, NiER & Genshin Impact were highlighted on Switch, but Nintendo always get's snubbed as I expected.  I knew it probably couldn't happen (Nintendo ip on other platforms is a no) but there was a rumor Fortnite was getting Kratos (PlayStation), Master Chief (X-BOX) and Samus (Nintendo), but instead The Walking Dead came...I don't really care since I'm not a Forknife guy, so whatever.

A highlight for the show for me (and the best music, that was also the most game-centric of the performances) was when the Persona 5 band got on there.  I felt a lil' Bubblegum Crisis/Cowboy Bebop music tingle so I may have to see if any of them were involved with the soundtrack in that?  Nope, just checked, Lyn Inaizumi only Japanimation music was for the Persona Animation.

Forget to mention Perfect Dark...another beloved franchise that will be ruined by MicroSoft and is on the wrong platform.
